WHO WE ARE

Our Story
From Garage Beginnings to a Full-Service Bike Hub
In April 2020, during a cycling tour through West Texas and a hike up Guadalupe Peak—the iconic mountain featured in our logo—John found inspiration. The world was in chaos, but one thing was clear: people were riding bikes more than ever, and they needed reliable service.
Encouraged by his mountain biking friends, John began tuning and repairing bikes out of his garage. What started as a favor for a few quickly turned into a full-time hustle. Within weeks, there was more work than one person could handle.
That’s when fellow rider and friend Chef Pablo stepped in. The two shared a love for bikes, community, and doing things the right way. They teamed up—and just like that, Pro Bikes Texas was born.
Their mission was simple from the start:
Deliver fast, top-quality service for the growing local MTB and gravel scene—without cutting corners. Just solid, honest work from people who ride and care.
But they also envisioned something more than just a repair shop. They wanted a place where people could gather—talk bikes, swap stories, and enjoy great coffee, cold refreshments, and handmade snacks. A shop that felt like part of the trail, not just a stop on it.
Over time, Pablo moved on to other adventures, and another member of the riding group, Federico Poggioli, stepped in. With deep MTB roots, fluent Spanish, and years of experience, Federico became an essential part of the team.
Today, John and Federico bring over 70 years of combined experience riding, racing, and maintaining bikes of all kinds. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a daily commuter, they treat your bike like it’s their own—because to them, it is.
Pro Bikes Texas is more than a shop. It’s a community hub built by riders, for riders.
Come in for a tune-up, stay for the coffee. Why? Because dialed bikes rock!

Meet John: The Heart and Hands Behind Pro Bikes Texas
John’s passion for mechanics began at the age of five, when he helped his dad rebuild a coaster brake. That early spark grew into a lifelong passion for fixing and building—especially bicycles. By 11, he was the neighborhood’s go-to bike mechanic, spending every free moment working on and riding his Schwinn BMX.
Though BMX racing was a dream that never quite took off, John discovered mountain biking in college in the mid-1980s. Austin’s Barton Creek Greenbelt quickly became his favorite playground as he dove into off-road cycling. While building a career in automotive and aerospace engineering, John never lost his love for riding. In 2010, he finally started racing competitively alongside his son in the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, John turned his passion into a purpose. Pro Bikes Texas was born with a focus on delivering expert service and high-quality bike builds to Texas’s MTB community.
Today, John combines decades of experience with a commitment to riders across the state. Whether it’s a custom build or routine tune-up, you can trust John and Pro Bikes Texas to keep your bike dialed and ready to ride.

Federico Poggioli: Turning a Long-Time Dream into Reality
Federico Poggioli’s journey into mountain biking began over 30 years ago in the mountains of his native Venezuela. Living near Ávila, he developed a love for the sport, particularly for climbing, and soon began racing XC in various countries, including the USA, Canada, and Venezuela.
Although swamped in corporate life, throughout these years, Federico had always had the idea of opening a bike shop in Caracas. However, political and economic challenges made it difficult to pursue that dream in his home country. Despite this, he maintained his interest in biking, and over time, he became skilled at maintaining and repairing his bikes. With a collection of Santa Cruz bikes, Federico developed a solid understanding of bike mechanics and gained a reputation for his meticulous attention to detail in bike maintenance.
After decades working for US-based companies, in 2017, Federico and his wife moved to Houston, Texas. Although his passion for mountain biking continued, the idea of starting a bike shop remained on his mind. In 2023, Federico reached out to John at Pro Bikes Texas (PBTX) with the hope that together they could make his dream a reality. In 2024, Federico officially joined the team, bringing his operational experience to the business. While working behind the scenes, he also contributed his mechanical expertise and helped with bike repairs in the shop.
Federico’s excellent communication skills and ability to connect with customers quickly made him a valuable member of the PBTX team. Today, he continues to support the Houston MTB community, offering reliable service and solid advice to help riders get the most out of their bikes.

Meet Nataly – Cyclist, Creator, and Core Part of the PBTX Family
Nataly Abreu is quite the cyclist.
She first popped into our shop during our very first year, riding 15 miles from home on her fixed-gear bike for a slow leak repair and some basic service. After Googling bike shops along her route, she found us—and we’re so glad she did.
From the start, we could tell this adventurous young woman from Colombia had a real passion for cycling. She loves to ride and share her experiences with friends and family—especially through Instagram, where her creativity really shines.
At the time, we needed help with social media, so we asked if she’d be interested in posting stories about PBTX. She said yes—and instantly started making us look good online.
Since 2021, Nataly has been helping us every week. Beyond boosting our social presence, she’s also a reliable hand with bike repairs and a huge help at events. Whether behind the scenes or out in the community, she brings energy, skill, and heart to everything she does.
We love Nataly and are proud to have her as part of the PBTX family.
